A ten piece summer capsule, built from one rack
How we would build a full summer capsule from the WIHOLL line: what to anchor with, what to skip, and why ten pieces is the honest number.
A capsule fails for one of two reasons. Either the pieces do not mix, or there are so many of them that the word capsule stops meaning anything. Ten is the number that survives contact with a real closet: enough to dress two weeks without repeats, few enough that everything earns its spot.
The split we recommend
| Slot | Count | What to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Everyday tops | 4 | Two tanks for heat, two tees that pass a lunch meeting. Neutral plus one color you actually wear. |
| Dresses | 2 | One short casual, one longer piece that handles dinner. Pockets are not optional. |
| Matching set | 1 | The lazy-day insurance policy. One decision, whole outfit. |
| Long sleeve layers | 2 | For flights, over-cooled restaurants and the first cool evening. |
| Wild card | 1 | The piece you love beyond reason. Every capsule needs one. |
Start with the tops. Our most reviewed tee holds a 4.4 rating across 12,478 reviews, which is the kind of consensus you want in a piece you will wear twice a week.
The two mistakes to skip
- Buying for the trip you imagine, not the one you take. If your vacations are beach chairs and long dinners, a blazer-adjacent top is dead weight. Check what you wore last summer and buy that, in better fabric.
- All neutrals. A capsule of white, black and beige photographs beautifully and feels like a uniform by day four. One saturated color changes the math of every outfit.
On the dress slot: a longer cut like our maxi styles covers dinner, the boardwalk and the flight home, which is three slots of work from one hanger. The planner on this page filters the whole line by occasion, which is the fastest way to fill the slots above.
